My Approach
If you’re desperately trying to get some extra sleep by letting your child fall asleep in your bed or in your arms, or doing whatever you can for a few more minutes of shut-eye, you’re not alone. Whether you’re just trying to get a few extra minutes of sleep or you’re trying to avoid losing an entire night of sleep, we’ve all been there, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of!
Parents often turn to books, Google, or friends for help when it comes to their child’s sleep issues. However, the information can be inconsistent and overwhelming, and each child has unique needs. With my evidence-based approach and personalized plans, parents feel empowered and confident in helping their child sleep through the night. I will provide you with a step-by-step plan that is easy to follow and allows you to make some choices about what is the right approach for your child. I will also show you how to measure their progress and provide you with support and encouragement along the way!
Imagine this: You go out for dinner and a family member puts your child down to sleep. The process is smooth, and your child sleeps soundly throughout the night (does that sound nice or what?). Teaching a child to sleep independently creates a flexible and adaptable little sleeper who can put themselves to sleep anywhere, by anyone. Whether you’re at home or on vacation, they can fall asleep on their own! Getting enough sleep makes everything easier for both you and your child. A well-rested child is full of energy, curiosity, happiness, and enthusiasm for learning. Meanwhile, a well-rested parent is more attentive, patient, relaxed, and affectionate towards their child.
What About Crying?
I understand that changing your child’s sleep habits can be a stressful process, and it’s normal to have concerns about your child crying. I often get asked if my solutions involve “crying it out” and the short answer is no; however, crying is a natural way for children to express themselves. If we’re making adjustments to their sleep habits, some amount of protest is expected due to their dislike of change. However, I want to assure you that I would never suggest you ignore their cries. My method is successful because I will work with you to develop a plan that meets your child’s unique needs and is customized to your comfort level.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions about my sleep method. I am here to support you and your child every step of the way. By working together, we can create a personalized strategy that will help your child get the restful sleep they need!
